The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that 2009’s horror/comedy joyride Zombieland is getting a sequel in 2019 to line up with the 10th anniversary. What’s even more exciting is that the original cast is coming back! Yes, you read that right – Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin have signed on to reprise their roles.
“…no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigal.” – Sanford Panitch
Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, Jekyll, Venom, Superstore) will be returning to the directors chair while Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese (Deadpool 1 & 2) have come back to write the script for the sequel. All around, it’s that ten year high school reunion you wish you had.
“This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time – and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail,” said Sanford Panitch, Columbia Pictures’ president, in a statement. “These are some of the most in-demand actors and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”
The story will see the patchwork family battling newly evolved zombies as well as the token butthole survivors that pop up here and there to cause trouble for our heroes and heroines.
Production is slated to start in January for an October release date.
