Ah the 80’s just keep coming faster and more furious into the second decade of the 21st century. It’s like a comet heading for Earth and unless we send Bruce Willis up to do something about it, it’s going to crash and crash hard. And… uh oh, it just did.
According to our friends at The Hollywood Reporter, our buddy Chucky is returning to the big screen in a remake of Tom Holland’s thriller about a possessed doll who just wants to get revenge. All the while playing the role of “good guy” to our co-protagonist Andy.
The original was great, unfortunately it churned out a franchise of seven films that got dumber and dumber as time goes on. I’m not sure when the series jumped the shark but it was sometime between part 3 and Chucky’s wedding… or procreation… or… oh God they should have stuck with just one.
The remake will be directed by newcomer Lars Klevberg – you may know him from, well, nothing since the only credits to his name are some short films and a feature based off one of his shorts. Unfortunately I haven’t seen any of his work so I can’t make an informed complaint or praise on how this remake will turn out.
That all being said, we’ve seen several 70’s and 80’s remakes now: Nightmare on Elm Street (1984/2010), Friday the 13th (1980/2009), Fright Night (1985/2011) and Poltergeist (1982/2015) to name a few and most, if not all have been disappointments on all levels. So fingers crossed they don’t eff this one up.
