Henry Cavill exits Superman role

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today that Henry Cavill will no longer play his iconic role of Superman in the DCU.

His exit came after talks broke down about Cavill making a cameo appearance in their upcoming Shazam movie. A move that would better help tie the movie to the rest of the DCU since Superman and Shazam have a long history in the comics. Cavill’s people claim scheduling conflicts for the actor’s current projects were what prevented him from being able to film the cameo scenes and Warner Brothers response was to cut ties with him all together.

A Warner source quoted in the article had some pretty callious words to share about it, “Superman is like James Bond, and after a certain run you have to look at new actors.”

This seems to be the feeling all around WarnerMedia right now. During an investors conference on September 6th CEO John Stankey said, “Some of our franchises, in particular at DC, we all think we can do better.”

This news is just one more blow to DCU fans since our main gripe with the studio is they are so quick to hit the reset button on DC movies and haven’t put the effort in Marvel has with the MCU.
